Description
This wonderful set of six napkin rings each features a 9ct gold Tasmania map and is possibly the work of Shott & Sons, though it may also have been made by Albert Henry Jackson; it is more likely Shott, as Jackson was not known to use gold embellishments on his woodwork. The interiors of the rings spell HOBART, with each letter also indicating the timber used: H for Boobyalla, O for Huon Pine, B for She-oak, A for King William Pine, R for Blackwood, and T for Tallow Wood. Together, the set forms a thoughtful and distinctly Tasmanian composition, combining precious metal, native timbers, and careful craftsmanship into a highly collectible and locally significant tableware ensemble.
