This tin friction toy plane is made in Japan, c.1970. It weighs 51.4 grams and is approximately 15.5cm long, 13.5cm wide and 5.5cm high at the tail. There are swirling discs at the wings, and the tail is made from plastic. It makes a satisfying noise when pushed! This item does not take batteries (!).  When the Wright Brothers developed the first aircraft they inspired the childhood dream of one day being able to fly, hence the increasing popularity of model airplanes in the young.  You can find out more about the history of toy planes here.
