Meet Us

The Shop in the Bush is lucky to have a great team working tirelessly behind the scenes.

Ben Davidson

OWNER

Before becoming an Antique Dealer, Ben had a 20-year successful career as an opera singer, lecturer, and conductor in the United States where he achieved a Masters of Music from the University of Connecticut. Now, after many international adventures, he enjoys a more peaceful life back home in Tasmania. Having acquired the business from his in-laws almost a decade ago, Ben has embraced the challenge of selling Antiques and never looked back! An avid lover of history, reading, and the outdoors, Ben can be often found mountain-biking, sailing, bushwalking, windsurfing, fishing, or flying. It is rare for the dust to settle on Ben or his Antiques.

Lily Davidson

MARKETING

Lily is Ben’s daughter and has helped out at The Shop since she can remember. She is currently completing an Arts degree at the University of Melbourne. With an eye for aesthetics & a love for vintage items, she is enjoying the challenge of this online venture. In her spare time, Lily loves to do yoga and spend time at the beach.

Ingrid Mitchell

SALES

Ingrid Mitchell, a proud Tasmanian, has lived at Germantown near St Marys with her husband since 1986. She is drawn to sparkling things; chandeliers, diamonds, crystal, but her favourite thing is to arrive at the Shop after a few days away and ”find” the treasure that has arrived since her last visit. Her background is in hospitality and administration but since arriving at the Shop in 2017 she has considered herself retired because, as Winston Churchill said, “If you find a job you love, you’ll never work again.”

Jo Woodberry

Jo remembers when the Shop in the Bush was built by her energetic mum and dad way back in 1982 – she was just a kid at the local primary school at the time! Growing up around so many beautiful and interesting objects has sparked a lifelong interest in the rare and unusual. Despite a career in Architecture, and another as a classical ballet teacher, Jo is happy to be home at the Shop in the
Bush.

Jane Seychell

After leaving sunny Queensland, Jane is loving her new home on the spectacular east coast of Tasmania.

With over 30 years of experience in retail, Jane is excited to be part of the team at The Shop in the Bush and to welcome customers with friendly Tasmanian hospitality. Jane is relatively new to antiques but she loves learning and history. She is also an accomplished professional artist having won several awards and
most recently been included in the Henry Jones Art Prize Competition. Her beautiful art can be found on Instagram @janeseychelleartist Jane is a fun loving, creative, and passionate artist who loves the idea that we can maintain our ancestral memories by keeping the past in the present.

Cheryl Sheehy

SALES

Cheryl has 30 years experience working in Antiques as co-owner of an Antique center in Ulversone. Now, as a new chapter in her life begins on the East Coast of Tasmania, she is very happy to find herself back in the world she knows and loves surrounded by beautiful Antiques and stunning Jewellery.
