Description

This pair of Victorian milk glass mantle lustres dates to around 1890 and stands 25.5cm high, with ruffled rims and hand-painted floral decoration that adds colour and softness to the white glass. Mantle lustres were popular decorative objects in the late 19th century, designed to sit on mantelpieces and catch the light, often used in pairs to frame a clock or central ornament; they commonly featured glass drops or painted surfaces to enhance their visual sparkle in gas- or candle-lit rooms. These are $450 in store or $500 online because of extra postage costs.
