Description

This half albertina fob is 13cm long and made from a combination of 9ct rose gold and yellow gold. It weighs 11.44g and includes both handmade and pressed antique components. The lock does not open, and the collar slides freely up and down the twin chains. The yellow and rose gold padlock is hand engraved and of very high-quality manufacture, most likely Swiss, although there are no hallmarks. It comes with a recent retail valuation for $3,985.

In the early 1900s, fobs and albertinas were an essential part of men’s and women’s dress-watch chains, often worn not just for function but as decorative jewellery. They frequently featured intricate links, sliding collars, and padlocks or charms, and the mix of rose and yellow gold was especially fashionable at the time. This piece fits neatly into that tradition, both practical in its construction and beautifully made.
